Why Sodium Metabisulfite (SMBS) used as De-Chlorinator?

 Sodium metabisulfite (Na2S2O5) is a white crystalline powder that is commonly used in various industrial applications. It is a salt composed of sodium, sulfur, and oxygen, and is also known as sodium pyrosulfite.

Sodium metabisulfite is a reducing agent, which means it can donate electrons to other substances and cause them to undergo a reduction reaction. Na2S2O5 + 2ClO2 → 2NaCl + 2SO2 + O2

Overall, sodium metabisulfite is an effective and relatively inexpensive dechlorinating agent that is commonly used in water treatment processes to remove residual chlorine or chlorine dioxide from wastewater.
